LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - SEPTEMBER 15: Max Domi of the Chicago Blackhawks is interviewed during the 2022 ... More

Max Domi, a young hockey player, began feeling unwell, which was unusual for him as he rarely got sick. After visiting the family doctor and being diagnosed with a virus, his symptoms persisted, leading to concerns about his health.

Despite participating in hockey activities, Max's condition worsened, causing weight loss and extreme fatigue. During a hockey camp in Detroit, he experienced intense thirst, which raised further alarms.

After a long journey back home, Max and his mother realized something was seriously wrong. Days later, Max was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D), a condition that requires lifelong insulin therapy.

T1D is an autoimmune disorder that destroys insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, leading to a lack of insulin in the body. Managing T1D involves balancing insulin doses, diet, and physical activity, especially crucial for athletes like Max.

To raise awareness about T1D and its challenges, Max Domi announced the launch of a podcast called In Range with co-host Andrew Koutnik. The podcast aims to shed light on the daily realities of living with T1D and staying within safe blood glucose levels.

Through their podcast, In Range, Max and Andrew will discuss how managing T1D parallels broader life challenges in health and sports. The first episode is set to premiere on World Diabetes Day, November 14th.
