Nintendo Switch Online Adds 'Mario Paint' for Retro Gaming Fun
Mario Paint is now available to play in the Nintendo Switch Online Super Nintendo catalog for both Switch and Switch 2. Subscribers can access the game, while non-subscribers will not have this option.
The game requires mouse control, using Joy-Con 2 or USB. The original 1992 release came with the official SNES mouse and a mousepad.
Nintendo consoles often come with unique features, like R.O.B. on the NES or the N64’s trident analog controller. The Switch 2 allows any Joy-Con 2 to function as a computer-style mouse in compatible software like Welcome Tour and Mario Paint.
Upon testing Mario Paint, some users experienced input lag when using a Joy-Con 2 as a mouse. Switching to a wired USB mouse improved the experience slightly, but some lag persisted despite sensitivity adjustments.
Despite the lag, revisiting Mario Paint has been enjoyable for many users. The game offers creative activities like music composition, coloring book pages, and drawing, providing a nostalgic experience for those who played it as kids.
The release of Mario Paint on NSO has sparked speculation about a potential sequel. While this remains uncertain, players can enjoy the 1992 classic on the Switch platform.
