OKC Thunder's Chet Holmgren signs $250M contract extension

Chet Holmgren and the NBA team Oklahoma City Thunder have agreed on a contract extension worth up to $250 million over five years, as reported by ESPN.

The fully guaranteed contract follows the significant deal between Oklahoma City and NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who signed a four-year, $285.4 million super maximum extension through 2031, making him the league's highest-paid player at over $71 million per season.

Standing at 7 feet 1 inch (2.16 meters) tall, Holmgren, aged 23, has faced injury setbacks, playing only 32 regular-season games due to a hip injury last season and missing his rookie year due to a foot injury.

Holmgren, with career averages of 16.1 points and 7.9 rebounds per game, played a crucial role in the team's 2025 title win, recording eight double-double performances in 23 postseason games that year.

Selected as the second overall pick in the 2022 draft, Holmgren joined the NBA alongside Jalen Williams, the 12th pick that year, who is also eligible for a rookie supermax extension. Williams is in the final season of a four-year rookie deal with a $6.6 million base salary for 2025-26 and is only the third player in history to achieve 150 three-pointers and 250 blocks in their first two NBA seasons.
