Phil Mickelson's Favoritism Haunts Him
Phil Mickelson's preference for his LIV Golf colleagues has once again caused trouble for the former PGA Tour star known as 'Lefty.'
In March, Mickelson made comments about Scottie Scheffler, a top PGA player, ranking him below LIV's Joaquín Niemann at that time. Mickelson also predicted Scheffler's performance for the 2025 season.
Since Mickelson's remarks, Scheffler has won two majors, with the latest victory in Portrush, Northern Ireland, where he triumphed over Harris English by four strokes with a score of -17.
Mickelson congratulated Scheffler on his win, praising his impressive performance in iron shots and putting. Mickelson himself finished The Open Championship tied for 56th place with a score of +1.
Golf fans did not hesitate to remind Mickelson of his earlier prediction about Scheffler not winning in 2025. Some fans teased Mickelson, while others made sarcastic comments comparing Scheffler to Niemann.
Scheffler continued his success by winning the Open with a 3-under-par 68 on Sunday, marking his 17th PGA Tour victory and fourth win since May. Fellow golfers like Xander Schauffele and Rory McIlroy praised Scheffler's exceptional performance, likening it to legendary players in the history of the game.
Mickelson, who left the PGA Tour in 2022 to join the LIV Golf circuit in Saudi Arabia, has been involved in negotiations between the rival tours for a merger.
