Police Oppose 'Inappropriate' Halloween Party in Leeds
Plans for a Halloween party with a potential 200 guests at a house in West Yorkshire have been blocked due to concerns about noise and anti-social behavior. West Yorkshire Police issued a formal notice to prevent the event at a house on Burley Road in Leeds, organized by Elton Lopes, who initially planned to host the party until 04:00 BST. Despite reducing the capacity to 120, permission for the event was denied by Leeds City Council's licensing sub-committee.
Sgt Andy Clifford expressed that the proposed event would be unsuitable for the area, comparing its hours and capacity to that of a city center nightclub. The event, scheduled for 1 November in a busy student area, was met with a formal objection notice from the police.
Mr. Lopes stated that the party would be invite-only, with guests required to have a wristband or QR code for entry. He emphasized the event's organization, safety measures, and limited alcohol consumption for a small group of invited guests. The application also mentioned a licensed drinks provider selling products at the party, with only speakers indoors and guests allowed in the back garden.
Despite Mr. Lopes' assurances, the council unanimously decided to issue a counter notice, citing concerns about noise disturbance, potential anti-social behavior, and public safety.
