Nottingham Forest has named former Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou as their new head coach. This decision follows the sacking of Nuno Espirito Santo by the Premier League club after just three games into the new season. Postecoglou, aged 60, was dismissed by Spurs despite winning the Europa League in May, which ended the club's 17-year trophy drought.
Forest's owner, Evangelos Marinakis, expressed confidence in Postecoglou, citing his track record of winning trophies and coaching at the highest level. Marinakis emphasized the club's ambition to compete with the best and challenge for titles, highlighting Postecoglou's credentials and experience as key assets for achieving these goals.
Santo, aged 51, departed from his role following a 3-0 defeat to West Ham. Despite exceeding expectations with a 7th-place finish in the previous season, Santo's relationship with the club's owner had deteriorated. Criticizing the club's transfer activities and expressing strained relations with the owner, Santo's departure was preceded by incidents indicating a breakdown in communication and understanding.
Postecoglou's debut match as Forest's manager is scheduled against Arsenal on Saturday, 13 September.
