Rangers Head Coach Eyes New Signings Before Champions League Play-Off
Rangers head coach Russell Martin has confirmed the club's interest in Brentford left-back Jayden Meghoma and anticipates new additions before Tuesday's Champions League play-off against Club Brugge.
Meghoma, a 19-year-old England youth international, previously worked with Martin at Southampton before moving to Brentford in 2024 and spending a loan spell at Preston last season.
Martin mentioned the potential departure of Jefte and the absence of Ridvan Yilmaz, hinting that Meghoma could join on loan to bolster the left side of defense.
Describing Meghoma as a talented player who has excelled at various youth levels for England, Martin expressed optimism about the prospect of him joining Rangers in the future.
Rangers will face Club Brugge in Glasgow on Tuesday, with the return leg scheduled for August 27. Martin expects changes to the team before the match and foresees the addition of up to two new players to the European squad.
Following a 4-2 victory over Alloa Athletic in the Premier Sports Cup, Martin acknowledged the team's missed opportunities and defensive lapses but highlighted the positive performances of debutants Mikey Moore and Emmanuel Fernandez, who scored a goal.
Despite the need for improvement, Martin emphasized the importance of giving new players playing time and expressed his ambition to target silverware in the League Cup this season.
Looking ahead, Martin sees the upcoming matches as opportunities for the team to progress and achieve success in competitions.
