Rare Buck Moon 2025 Captured in Southern England

The Buck Moon appeared over the southern regions on Thursday night, creating a stunning sight. This particular Moon was a Buck Moon, a type of supermoon that occurs when the Moon is closest to the Earth and full. Each monthly full Moon has a different name, and July's Moon is called the Buck Moon to signify the time when male deer, or bucks, start growing their new antlers.

BBC Weather Watchers in Oxfordshire, Dorset, Hampshire, and the Isle of Wight were prepared to capture the beauty of the Buck Moon rising over the south. Various photos were taken, including one by BBC Weather Watcher Hang Ross from Studland, another showing the moon above beach huts in Stanpit Marsh, Dorset, and a shot of a speedboat passing beneath the moon near Mudeford, Christchurch taken by BBC Weather Watcher Brian.

Other images included the Buck Moon above a field of sunflowers in Ferndown, Dorset, a view of the moon rising above the Needles on the Isle of Wight captured by BBC Weather Watcher Gary Jacobs, and the orange moon above fields in Over Wallop, Hampshire, photographed by BBC Weather Watcher Maz. Additionally, BBC Weather Watcher Lucie Johnson took a picture of the Buck Moon peeking above the countryside near Oxford.
