Residents in Yorkshire Dales concerned about pollution source
Residents in Hawes, Yorkshire Dales, have reported pollution in Gayle Beck causing a foul smell and oily water.
People in the area noticed discolored water and a diesel smell in the tributary of the River Ure. The Environment Agency is investigating the issue after visiting the site.
Despite reports from residents, the nearby dairy factory, Saputo, confirmed that it is not the source of the pollution.
Local officials and residents expressed concern about the environmental impact of the pollution, including dead fish in the river.
The Environment Agency has not yet identified the source of the pollution but is continuing its investigations. Previous pollution incidents in the beck were linked to a faulty drainage system at Wensleydale Creamery.
Saputo UK stated that they are taking the pollution reports seriously and investigations have shown that the creamery is not responsible for the oily substance in the water.
