Rift between Nabers and Daboll as Giants lose season opener
Malik Nabers and Giants coach Brian Daboll had a disagreement during the team's loss to the Commanders on Sunday, where the Giants struggled offensively. The team failed to score a touchdown and gained only 231 yards in total offense in Washington, resulting in a 21-6 defeat by their NFC East rivals. Cameras captured Nabers and Daboll arguing on the sideline between the first and second quarters. Despite appearing unhappy, Nabers and Daboll later reconciled with a hug before play resumed.
Nabers led the Giants in receiving yards with 71 but struggled to catch five out of 12 targets as quarterback Russell Wilson faced difficulties in his Giants debut. Wilson completed only 17 of 37 passes for 169 yards, took two sacks, and ended the game with a passer rating of 59.3. Despite the challenging performance, Daboll expressed his confidence in Wilson, stating, 'I have confidence in Russ. We have to do better overall.'
The Giants reportedly had plays prepared for rookie Jaxson Dart in their game strategy against the Commanders, but Dart did not get playing time. Dart had an impressive preseason, showcasing 372 passing yards and three touchdowns in games against the Bills, Jets, and Patriots. The Giants are set to play the Cowboys in Dallas next week.
