Sinner Dominates to Reach Semis at US Open
Jannik Sinner, the winner of the Australian Open and Wimbledon in 2025, continued his US Open title defense by defeating fellow Italian Lorenzo Musetti in dominant fashion to advance to the semi-finals in New York. The match took place at Arthur Ashe Stadium on August 24-7 September.
Sinner, who was previously referred to as an "artificial intelligence" player by Alexander Bublik, won the match 6-1 6-4 6-2. Musetti, ranked 10th, failed to convert any of his seven break points and hit only 12 winners compared to Sinner's 28.
After the match, Sinner mentioned the familiarity between the two players as they are both from Italy and have played together in the Davis Cup. Sinner closed out the first set quickly, but Musetti put up a stronger fight in the second set. However, Sinner managed to secure the win by breaking Musetti twice in the third set.
Sinner, who has now won 26 consecutive matches at hard-court Grand Slam tournaments, will face Felix Auger-Aliassime in the semi-final. Auger-Aliassime, who won the US Open junior titles in singles and doubles, defeated Alex de Minaur to reach the semi-finals for the first time since 2021.
The match between Auger-Aliassime and De Minaur was marked by nerves and inconsistencies, with a total of 22 double faults and 93 unforced errors. Auger-Aliassime acknowledged the challenges ahead but expressed readiness for the upcoming matches.
