F1 Chief Expects British GP at Silverstone Forever
The British Grand Prix is set to continue on the Formula 1 calendar until 2034. The race will take place this week, with Sunday's event scheduled for 3pm and will be broadcast on Sky Sports and Sky Showcase.
Formula 1 chief Stefano Domenicali expressed confidence that the British Grand Prix will remain a permanent fixture on the calendar. Domenicali, along with a quarter of the grid's drivers, including British rookie Ollie Bearman and former Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz, will meet with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer ahead of the race at Silverstone. The event will be covered live on Sky Sports F1.
Last year, F1's owners, Liberty Media, secured a 10-season agreement with Silverstone worth £300 million, ensuring the race's presence until 2034. Domenicali emphasized Silverstone's unique qualities, stating that it is an ideal location for such a significant event in the UK.
Domenicali plans to discuss the importance of enhancing the road infrastructure around Silverstone and the value of the motor racing industry to the UK economy during his meeting with Starmer. The F1 industry contributes an estimated £12 billion annually to the UK economy, directly employing around 6,000 people.
Additionally, Domenicali aims to address visa issues for lower-skilled overseas workers in the sport following Brexit. He stressed the need to ensure smooth operations for international personnel during race weekends. Contingency plans are also in place for the final two rounds of the season in Qatar and Abu Dhabi due to political tensions in the Middle East. Discussions with race promoters are ongoing to monitor the situation closely.
