Wimbledon: Raducanu Meets Sabalenka, Top Players Fall

Emma Raducanu advanced to the third round of Wimbledon with a 6-3 6-3 victory over Marketa Vondrousova on Wednesday. The British No 1 will next face world No 1 Aryna Sabalenka, after she defeated Czech world No 48 Katerina Bouzkova 7-6 (4) 6-4.

Raducanu played with power and precision to overcome Vondrousova, who had won the Berlin grass-court title recently. Despite dropping her serve in the second set, Raducanu secured the win with her first match point.

The women's draw has been shaken up after several top players, including Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, Jasmine Paolini, and Zheng Qinwen, unexpectedly lost in the first round.

Other notable results:

  • Cameron Norrie: Defeated 12th seed Frances Tiafoe 4-6 6-4 6-3 7-5 and reached the third round for the fourth time in five years.
  • Sonay Kartal: Defeated 20th seed Jelena Ostapenko 6-2 6-2 and advanced to the third round for the first time in her Grand Slam career.
  • Katie Boulter: Lost to little-known Argentinian Solana Sierra 3-6 7-5 6-4.

Raducanu expressed happiness at the opportunity to play Sabalenka, while the Belarusian champion remained focused on her own game despite the early exits of other top players.
