Subaru's "Moo Moo" Car Trend Challenges Jeep Dominance
Jeep owners have a new trend to contend with in the form of little rubber mascots. Move over Duck, Duck, Jeep. It’s time for Moo Moo Subaru.
A community of Subaru enthusiasts is leaving notes and small rubber cows on Subarus across the country. Similar to Jeep owners receiving rubber ducks, the idea is simple: If you like a Subaru, leave a rubber cow and a note mentioning the Moo Moo Subaru Facebook group on the car.
This act, known as "mooing," has become a movement among Subaru owners, who share their experiences and ideas on social media. The Moo Moo Subaru Facebook group, established in June, has over 149,000 members. Other dedicated Facebook groups have also emerged. Most rubber cows are ordered through Amazon by Moo Moo Subaru members.
Staci Huckins, one of the Facebook group administrators, highlighted the positive impact of finding a cow on one's car, bringing joy and kindness to people's days. Subaru has been gaining ground on Jeep in the U.S. market, with Subaru sales increasing by 16.5% compared to the previous year.
The Moo Moo Subaru initiative began with a conversation between Huckins and a friend, Crystal Hamann. Huckins drives a Subaru Crosstrek and decided to start "mooing" Subarus after learning about ducking Jeeps. The idea of using cows stemmed from the resemblance of the Subaru logo to the Taurus constellation.
Subaru of America is aware of the Moo Moo Subaru Facebook group but is not actively involved. The initiative has garnered support from Subaru enthusiasts, enhancing the sense of community among owners. Members like Shelly Baldwin have embraced the trend, spreading joy by placing rubber cows on Subarus in their area.
Pamela Pitlanish, a recent Subaru convert, has joined the Moo Moo Subaru group and enjoys sharing the cow mascots with fellow Subaru owners. She appreciates the community spirit and the opportunity to brighten someone's day through this simple gesture.
