Thanksgiving Skins Game Back on Amazon After 17 Years

Thanksgiving Skins Game Back on Amazon After 17 Years

The Thanksgiving Skins Game is making a comeback this year after a 17-year break. The event will feature Justin Thomas, Keegan Bradley, Tommy Fleetwood, and Xander Schauffele at Panther National in Florida on Friday, November 28.

In this year's Skins Game, each hole will have a set dollar value, and if holes are tied, the money rolls over. A new twist is the introduction of a reverse purse concept. Each player will start with $1 million on the scoreboard, and their totals will be based on their performance. Players can either increase their money or see it disappear with each shot, adding real-time financial stakes to the game.

The first Skins Game took place in 1983 with golf legends Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Tom Watson, and Gary Player competing over Thanksgiving at Desert Highlands in Scottsdale, Arizona. The event ran for 25 years until 2008 when declining interest led to its cancellation in 2009, despite Tiger Woods' participation.

Charlie Neiman, Head of Sports Partnerships at Prime Video, expressed excitement about relaunching the Skins Game as part of a day of live sports on Prime Video on Black Friday.

The return of the Skins Game is part of a trend in golf to revive classic formats. The Match, which started in 2018 with Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson at Shadow Creek, is considered a modern take on Shell's Wonderful World of Golf.
