Thomas Tuchel Clears Air on Bellingham, Foden, Grealish
Thomas Tuchel has stated that he has no issues with Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, or Jack Grealish after the three players were not included in his England squad for upcoming matches against Wales and Latvia.
Despite recovering from a shoulder injury, Bellingham did not make the squad, while Foden and Grealish were also left out despite good performances for Manchester City and Everton.
Tuchel mentioned that Bellingham expressed a desire to be part of the squad, and they had a conversation about it. Tuchel acknowledged Bellingham's talent but decided to stick with the existing group for the upcoming games.
Tuchel emphasized his positive relationship with Bellingham, following an earlier incident where he apologized for criticizing Bellingham's behavior on the pitch. He clarified that there are no issues with Bellingham, Foden, or Grealish.
The only change to the squad from last month is Bukayo Saka replacing the injured Noni Madueke. The team will face Wales in a friendly before a World Cup qualifier in Riga.
Tuchel highlighted the team's strong performance in their recent match against Serbia and explained that the decision to maintain the squad was influenced by that success. He mentioned that there are no guarantees for players in terms of selection but left the door open for future opportunities.
Tuchel addressed the form of various players and acknowledged those who deserve to be in the squad. He stressed the importance of having a balanced team and being prepared for any potential injuries before the World Cup.
In a news conference, Tuchel explained his rationale for squad selection, emphasizing team spirit and continuity after a significant win. Despite not selecting Bellingham, Tuchel reiterated his respect for the player and emphasized that there are no issues between them.
