Trump considers labeling Antifa and left-wing groups 'domestic terrorists'
President Donald Trump stated on Monday that he is considering labeling the far-left group Antifa as domestic terrorists. He mentioned that he would proceed with this designation if he receives support from Cabinet officials and the Justice Department.
Antifa is a loosely organized movement without a clear leader, membership lists, or structure. Trump's comments follow claims by administration officials of a coordinated left-wing effort to incite violence, although no public evidence has emerged linking the alleged assassin of Charlie Kirk to such a larger effort.
The President expressed his intention to target left-wing groups, including Antifa, which he accuses of inciting violence. He also mentioned discussing with Attorney General Pam Bondi the possibility of bringing racketeering charges against left-wing groups funding agitators.
Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller referred to a "network of organizations" launching riots, specifically mentioning Black Lives Matter demonstrations. Trump reiterated his belief that political violence primarily comes from the left, while downplaying instances of violence against Democrats.
Trump explained that he did not lower American flags after the murder of Minnesota Democratic state Rep. Melissa Hortman because the governor did not request it. Flags were lowered following Kirk's killing, which Walz described as a politically motivated assassination.
After the shooting, Trump did not call Governor Walz to offer condolences, referring to him as "whacked out" and questioning the need for a conversation.
