Unraveling the Nicki Minaj-SZA Feud
Rapper Nicki Minaj criticized singer SZA on Twitter, focusing on her appearance, music sales, and singing voice. This came after Minaj accused SZA's manager of bullying her. Last week, Minaj had a similar social media outburst targeting rapper Megan Thee Stallion and Jay Z's Roc Nation label.
Minaj claimed that Terrence "Punch" Henderson, president of Top Dawg Entertainment, was bullying her after she turned down a business offer from him. SZA, who is signed to Top Dawg Entertainment and was previously managed by Henderson, responded indirectly to Minaj's tweets, mentioning "Mercury retrograde" and advising not to take the bait.
Although SZA did not mention Minaj by name, Minaj interpreted her post as a slight and responded by making derogatory remarks about SZA. The exchange continued with both artists trading barbs on Twitter. Minaj criticized SZA's success in the music industry and made disparaging comments about her talent.
Minaj also referenced a tweet from a fan that suggested SZA's post about Mercury retrograde was related to Minaj speaking out against Henderson. Minaj used the hashtag #JusticeForDemoree in her tweets, referring to a lawsuit filed by Demoree Hadley, daughter of Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez. Minaj has been vocal in her criticism of Roc Nation and accused Perez and the company of trying to control her.
In addition to targeting SZA, Minaj's recent social media posts have also taken aim at Megan Thee Stallion and Jay-Z, with whom she has had public disputes. Minaj accused Jay-Z of owing her money after the sale of Tidal, a streaming service in which she had a stake. She also criticized Roc Nation for various reasons, including allegedly ruining hip-hop and touring.
