Virgil van Dijk discusses impact of Anthony Gordon's red card tackle

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk was affected by Anthony Gordon’s red card tackle during their Premier League match at St. James’ Park. Gordon was sent off in the first half, making the game tougher for the Premier League champions.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe had urged the home crowd to create an intense atmosphere, and they did so as Newcastle physically dominated Liverpool in the first half. Gordon, playing in the middle due to Alexander Isak's absence, had several chances, with one effort just missing the crossbar.

Liverpool managed to take the lead through Ryan Gravenberch's shot from outside the box. Just before half-time, Gordon attempted a tackle on Van Dijk, resulting in a red card for serious foul play after a VAR review.

Gordon's dismissal left Newcastle with 10 men for the second half, and Liverpool secured a victory with a late goal from Rio Ngumoha. Gordon now faces a three-match suspension, exacerbating Newcastle's striker shortage due to Isak's absence.
