Volunteers Prepare Hampers for Diwali in Leicestershire
On Sunday, volunteers prepared 600 food hampers to be distributed across Leicestershire. The effort aims to assist struggling families and address food insecurity.
Over 120 volunteers gathered at Darji Community Centre in Leicester for the annual event coinciding with Diwali. Vina Parekh, the charity's event lead for the area, expressed gratitude for the community's strong support.
Similar events took place in Birmingham, London, and Manchester over the weekend. The parcels contain handmade cards from children in India, according to Mrs. Parekh.
Nationwide, the charity readied 5,500 food hampers for distribution, including 600 designated for families in Leicestershire. Mrs. Parekh emphasized the hampers' goal to support struggling families of all faiths.
The hampers consist of non-perishable items like pasta, cereal, rice, chocolate, toothpaste, and handmade Diwali cards from Indian children. Mrs. Parekh highlighted the Leicester team's efficiency in packing the hampers in just four hours.
Aged 55 and residing in Oadby, Mrs. Parekh shared her motivation to contribute to the community, despite her grown-up children. She praised the project's progress and the dedicated team's efforts.
